First of all, what business does Perez Hilton have judging a Miss USA contest? Who, besides him, thought this was a good idea?

Second, why was Carrie Prejean (Miss California) the only contestant to be asked a political hot button question about her feelings on gay marriage? Was it fair to ask her this question and no one else?

Prejean gave an honest answer, stating that she believes in the traditional idea of marriage as only being between a man and a woman. Perez Hilton then took to the airwaves and began throwing around “b” words and “c” words to describe Prejean and the liberal media types hosting him allow it to go on with no reprimands.

Hilton fancies himself some sort of freedom fighter for gay marriage. He clearly likens gay marriage to the civil rights struggles of the 1960’s and he’s put himself at the center of the struggle.

Have people forgotten that this is a man who became famous by drawing dicks and coke lines on the faces of celebrities? You can see some of Perez Hilton’s (ahem) artwork in the photo above. Is this really the spokesman gay marriage proponents want to hang their ambitions on?

Furthermore, are Perez Hilton and his partners in the gay marriage movement aware that the president they support has the exact same position on gay marriage as Carrie Prejean?

Gay marriage proponents would do themselves a great favor if they did two things.

1. Lose the hateful attitude. Stop screeching and demonizing anyone who disagrees. Cut out the thuggish tactics of publishing online maps to the homes of people who supported proposition 8 in California. Stop using profanity laden personal attacks as a way to win people over because you won’t. People have trouble sympathizing with any cause that does these things.

2. Get a new spokesman.

Of course, what’s probably at the root of Perez Hilton’s disdain for Carrie Prejean is jealousy. Carrie Prejean is a smoking – hot – woman.
