Liberal Bloggers Learn Valuable Life Lesson

Liberal bloggers are apparently fed up with shilling for Obama.

On a recent conference call with chief Obama propagandist David Axelrod, they lashed out and accused Axelrod of betrayal. Which party is having a civil war again?

I’m reminded of the scene in Animal House when Otter says to Flounder “You fucked up. You trusted us.”

Top Obama adviser David Axelrod got an earful of the liberal blogosphere’s anger at the White House moments ago, when a blogger on a conference call directly called out Axelrod over White House criticism of the left, accusing the administration of “hippie punching.”

“We’re the girl you’ll take under the bleachers but you won’t be seen with in the light of day,” the blogger, Susan Madrak of Crooks and Liars, pointedly told Axelrod on the call, which was organzied for liberal bloggers and progressive media. [snip]

Axelrod didn’t engage on “hippie punching,” but he said he agreed with the blogger. “To the extent that we shouldn’t get involved in intramural skirmishing, I couldn’t agree more,” Axelrod said. “We just can’t afford that. There are big things at stake here.”

Madrak replied that Axelrod was missing the point — that the criticism of the left made it tougher for bloggers like herself to motivate the base. “Don’t make our jobs harder,” she said.

“Right back at’cha. Right back at’cha,” Axelrod replied, a bit testily, an apparent reference to blogospheric criticism of the administration.

For the record, The Urban Dictionary defines Hippie Punching thusly…

A hippie punch is when you’re working your way to the front of a show by performing a dancing, punching motion, therefore annoying audience members so they simply move out of the way and let you pass making your way through the crowd….closer to the jams.

IMAO offers a Hippie Punching FAQ.

Finally, Robert Stacy McCain sums up the situation perfectly…

Never mind exactly why Madrak went off on David Axelrod during a conference call today. The point is that she’s right.

In order to win elections, Democrats have to pretend to share the values of the American middle class. They can’t afford to associate themselves too publicly with the grungy leftoids who are, in fact, the driving force behind the Democratic policy agenda.

Well said, Stacy. Well said.

If you’re in a hurry, the money quote in the video below comes at the 1:10 mark.
