The State Has Noticed Your Children Are Getting Fat

This latest disgusting nanny state assault comes from Breitbart TV via Hot Air.

Guess what government… There have always been fat kids, there will always be fat kids. Fat kids have always been picked on in school, fat kids will always be picked on in school. This is not a problem that government can fix, this is not a problem that government should try to fix.

It’s none of the government’s fucking business what parents feed their kids, fat or not. In fact, if ever there was a perfect example of “we’re from the government and we’re here to help” this is it.

UPDATE: A commenter points out correctly that this is not a “government” video. However, since this does line up perfectly with Michelle Obama’s signature issue, the sentiment remains the same. Leave people and their kids alone. Mind your own business.

  The party affiliation of Georgia’s governor has nothing to do with this. I don’t like any government officials that try to tell the people what to do. But as JG points out below, this isn’t even a “government” video.

  Um, these ads are sponsored by Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, a private (non-profit) corporation. Not sure what the government has to do with any of this.

  Not certain but I suspect that this was done as part of a federal grant. I don’t have access to a grand DB right now to check, but many of these sort of programs are done by organizations paid by the government. The US doesn’t do quango’s per se, but instead funds private groups to perform actions for it.

  It’s not just that they’ve noticed and they’re interfering. It’s that their whole faux science, “healthy fruits and vegetable”, carb-loaded, anti-fat and protein recommendations that’ve been ramping up since the ’60s have infiltrated every corner of our conciousnesses, so we give that shit to our kids. The government is actualy MAKING them fat.

  Standard government operating procedure.
  1) Identify “problem.”
  2) Push “solution” in various ways, whether by coercive force of law or by propaganda, funding things like the vid above through grants.
  3) Further problems arise, often as direct consequences of the “solution.”
  4) Scream bloody murder about how the “free market” has failed- ignoring that the market wasn’t acting freely, it was acting under government influence and/or compulsion.
  5) Push “solution.” Leave conveniently unemphasized that solution inevitaby increases the power of the politicians and bureacrats who pushed it. Rinse and repeat.

  Inactivity promotes obesity. Poor health, ignorance, entitlements, and sloth promote inactivity. Bail outs, whether from mommy or government, whether for people or corporations, promote entitlement, ignorance, sloth, and poor health, both physical and emotional. Whoever is bailing out otherwise capable people promotes our worst instincts: “He gets his, I’ll get mine,” “Because I can,” “Because we think you can’t do it, so here, take this pittance with your anti-depressant.”

  It isn’t the people who are corrupt, it’s the system. It’s sucking us in like an approaching black hole.

  The State wants kids not to be fat, it should stop enforcing Title IX primarily against children. See e.g. what’s going on in Pittsburgh, where a boys (ages 5-6) basketball league is going to be shut down because the overall basketball league cannot achieve “gender equity”; in other words fewer girls want to play than boys so Uncle Sam is shutting the league down.

  But they’ll make up for this by regulating what your kid, fat or thin, can eat.

  RIGHT as far as the all-intrusive government is concerned. WRONG when your doctor and non-government orgs tell you you’re not full figured, hefty, big boned, big, or stout — you’re FAT. And it can cause diabetes, heart disease, and joint problems. AND it’s very hard to lose weight, so starting kids down the road to obesity is very cruel.

  It sounds like the problem in Georgia is bullying, not childhood obesity. If those kids weren’t fat, I guarantee you the other kids would still find something about them to pick on.
