The RED DAWN Remake: North Korea Invades America

August 10, 2012

That would be the same North Korea that can’t feed its own people.

I loved the original Red Dawn despite the fact that it gave birth to the lead characters of Dirty Dancing. I’m generally not a fan of our new tradition of remakes though. They tend to change some fundamental aspect of the original film and rarely for the better.

Red Dawn is no exception to that rule. The invading army in the original was made up of Soviets and Cubans. The remake was supposed to portray an invasion by the Chinese but apparently, that wasn’t marketable so the villain was changed to North Korea. See Ace of Spades for more on that.

Allahpundit says this remake doesn’t pass the suspension of disbelief test. I’m not sure but I probably won’t see it in theaters because, as I said, I’m not a fan of remakes. Watch the trailer below and leave your thoughts in a comment if you like.
