Neil Armstrong passed away yesterday at the age of 82.

Smitty also has a great tribute.

David Bowie released Space Oddity in 1969, shortly before Neil Armstrong made history as the first human being to set foot on the Moon. The BBC even used the song in their TV coverage.

“The BBC even used the song in their TV coverage.”

Those wacky, jejune Brits crack me up. I remember when their Swiss Army Hub Cap was due to land on Mars shortly before the US Mars Rovers. Upon landing, it was to transmit a song written especially for the historic occasion by the pop group ‘Blur’, instead of something useful like telemetry data or system diagnostics, etc…They were all giddy and poncing about, crowing that they’d beat the yanks in the Mars race, ready to start dancing in Trafalgar Square. The BBC had the senior hippy astronomer on to tearfully break the bad news that they had actually sent the first British meteorite to the angry red planet instead. SMACK-O. Craterville for the Redcoats. More than they deserved.
