There has been a massive surge in applications to buy guns. The Raw Story reports, via Guardian UK and both cite a report from the FBI which we’ve been unable to find at this time. It is believable, however, based on numerous reports from reputable news outlets in recent months.
According to The Raw Story, the boom in gun sales has caused Obama and Democrats to drop an attempt to ban assault weapons. Full story HERE.
“As firearms sales in the United States hit new highs, the Obama Administration and Democrats in Congress are squelching talk of a renewal of the assault weapons ban passed by Congress that in 2004, saying they don’t want a distraction from their agenda and don’t have the votes in Congress.”
“Seven million people have applied for criminal background checks since November in an effort to buy guns, according to the FBI. That figure doesn’t include Virginia, whose gun shows don’t require any background checks.”
Guardian UK points out that the surge in gun sales has led to shortages:
“Firearms sales have surged in the six months since Obama’s election as millions of Americans have gone on a buying spree that has stripped gun shops in some parts of the country almost bare of assault weapons and led to a national ammunition shortage.”
Even CNN is reporting that “Fewer Americans Support Gun Control Laws”.
“Since 2001, most Americans have favored stricter gun laws, though support has slightly dropped in recent years: 54 percent favored stricter laws in 2001, compared with 50 percent in 2007, according to Gallup polling.”
“Now, a recent poll reveals a sudden drop — only 39 percent of Americans now favor stricter gun laws, according to a new CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll.”
It appears love of the Second Amendment is alive and well in America.
Now if we could just get home and car sales to the level of gun sales. Talk about economic stimulus!
