Alaska Libertarian Party To Murkowski: No Thanks

There’s been some talk around the web that if Lisa Murkowski loses the Republican nomination for US Senate in Alaska that she might try to run as a Libertarian. Apparently, the Alaska Libertarian Party has said thanks but no thanks. Eric Dondero of Libertarian Republican broke the story today…

The Executive Committee of the Alaska Libertarian Party held an emergency meeting yesterday to discuss the contested primary results in the Republican Senate primary. All 5 board members met in an undisclosed location in northeast Anchorage to hammer out a decision as to how to move forward.

Friends of Lisa Murkowski approached the ALP early Wednesday morning immediately after the Tuesday primaries, feeling out if there was any possibility that the Senator could appear on the Libertarian line for the fall election, as a third party candidate. Other supporters of the Senator, including at least two longstanding members of the Libertarian Party, also called to lobby ALP Chair Scott Kohlhaas to keep an “open mind,” on the issue.

Kohlhaas was immediately innundated with Alaska and national media over the matter.

On Sunday morning, over coffee and donuts, the ExComm voted unanimously, 5 to 0 to deny the Senator the ballot line. There was no malice intended. ALP Chair Kohlhaas has repeatedly stated that she is a nice lady, and the ALP was flattered by the offer.

Robert Stacy McCain, who knows Dondero, offers some juicier details at his blog and makes a gutsier choice in his post title.

Murkowski’s opponent, Tea Party backed Republican Joe Miller, has a slight lead but absentee ballots have yet to be counted.

Allahpundit at Hot Air describes the inherent catch 22 in all this….

Irony of ironies, if Miller wins the primary then the one person in Alaska who can probably guarantee his victory in the general is … Lisa Murkowski, by endorsing him and asking her supporters to back him in a show of party unity. (She has major centrist appeal, drawing 38 percent of indies, 32 percent of Republicans, and even 27 percent of Democrats in a three-way race.) Think Murky will be willing to put all this behind her and help the GOP by declaring “It’s Miller time” in Alaska?

I’m an Enya fan and a General Petraeus fan. BIG thanks to Allahpundit of Hot Air for writing about this…

GRIFFIN: Is there any music that you particularly like? Are you a classical music guy? Are you a pop, are you a Taylor Swift guy?
PETRAEUS: No, no. I’m an Enya guy. I don’t know if Enya’s still –
GRIFFIN: Enya?

Below is a video for one of my favorite Enya songs. It’s called “Anywhere Is.”

Bush Campaign Chief Comes Out As Gay

Ken Mehlman, the campaign manager for George W. Bush in 2004 and former chair of the RNC has come out as gay. You know what? Good for him…

Ken Mehlman, President Bush’s campaign manager in 2004 and a former chairman of the Republican National Committee, has told family and associates that he is gay.

Mehlman arrived at this conclusion about his identity fairly recently, he said in an interview. He agreed to answer a reporter’s questions, he said, because, now in private life, he wants to become an advocate for gay marriage and anticipated that questions would arise about his participation in a late-September fundraiser for the American Foundation for Equal Rights (AFER), the group that supported the legal challenge to California’s ballot initiative against gay marriage, Proposition 8.

“It’s taken me 43 years to get comfortable with this part of my life,” said Mehlman, now an executive vice-president with the New York City-based private equity firm, KKR. “Everybody has their own path to travel, their own journey, and for me, over the past few months, I’ve told my family, friends, former colleagues, and current colleagues, and they’ve been wonderful and supportive. The process has been something that’s made me a happier and better person. It’s something I wish I had done years ago.”

Maybe he was listening to what Paul Ryan said about the future of the Republican party in April of 2009…

Ryan is promoting, not bending, conservative principles to expand the party.

“If you believe in freedom, liberty, self-determination, free enterprise, I don’t care if you’re a Muslim, Jewish, Agnostic, Christian, gay, straight, Latino, black, white, Irish, whatever. Join us.”

I’ve been saying since July of 2009 that the Republican Party was going more Libertarian and that it was a good thing. I stand by my prediction.

UPDATE: According to Allahpundit of Hot Air, this is old news. Who knew? Not me, apparently.

Now, Who Was it Again Who’s Extreme?

A new video from the NRSC via Jim Geraghty and Allahpundit of Hot Air who smartly notes…

If the GOP convinces independents that the left holds them in contempt — or rather, I should say, if Democrats convince independents of that — they’ll take a beating of Biblical proportions.

Nancy Pelosi claims she’s a big fan of The Word. I wonder if she’s ever heard the story of Noah…

She certainly might want to begin preparing for a flood. An ever growing number of average Americans are looking forward to watching her hand the gavel to Speaker Boehner.

Massachusetts Democrat Legislators Are Already Trying to Rig The 2012 Presidential Election For Obama

Yesterday, the overwhelmingly Democrat Massachusetts Legislature passed a bill to favor the popular vote to determine the next President of the United States in 2012, effectively bypassing the Electoral College.

The Massachusetts Legislature has approved a new law intended to bypass the Electoral College system and ensure that the winner of the presidential election is determined by the national popular vote.

I wrote about this last week.

Let’s get real. This bill was pushed through for one reason… Democrats are terrified of a repeat of the 2000 presidential election in which Obama could win the popular vote but lose the electoral vote to George W. Bush any Republican challenger.

Remember: Obama supporters were worried about this before the 2008 election.

Democrats across the country are watching Obama’s sinking poll numbers and some of his biggest fans in the media are already calling him the new Jimmy Carter. Oops!

The irony of the situation is that if Massachusetts voters elect Obama in 2012 but the rest of the country doesn’t, the bill passed by the Democrat legislators of Massachusetts will cause all of the Massachusetts electoral college votes to be cast for Obama’s opponent.

But who knows?

Maybe Gingrich/Palin or Romney/Brewer will go over well with Bay State liberals.

I was bothered by all of this until I read Allahpundit’s analysis at Hot Air…

Why would Florida or Ohio, say, forfeit their electoral votes by signing on when their swing-state status ensures plenty of extra attention from the candidates every four years? The more blue states sign up for this, the cooler red states and purple states will be to it, to the point where I wonder how big realistically this bloc can get. 200 EVs, maybe, until other states start walking away? Three cheers for self-interest!

DaTechGuy adds…

After all who cares what the voters of Massachusetts think, If enough other states think differently our votes and our decisions are don’t matter. We no longer have control of our own franchise. To say this is an abomination is too weak a word. Why even have a state?

Amen, brother.

A Note To The Left: Don’t Fuck With Andrew Breitbart

Last week the NAACP, which has become nothing more than a far left political organization, made completely false charges of racism against the Tea Party. Andrew Breitbart, the conservative libertarian internet publisher responded. And won…

Here’s the timeline…

July 13: The NAACP passed a resolution calling the Tea Party “racist.”

July 15: Andrew Breitbart released a statement saying the NAACP claim was bullshit and said he had damning video evidence of racism at an NAACP event.

July 19 @ 8 AM: Andrew Breitbart published the promised video of a USDA official at an event sponsored by the NAACP.

July 19 @ 8 PM: USDA official Shirley Sherrod RESIGNED.

Despite Andrew Breitbart’s cash reward, no one has been able to prove that the Tea Party is a racist organization.

As ACE has noted, some “MFM” outlets have even picked up on this scandal.

Paging the Southern Poverty Law Center…

Hello???

UPDATE: I can’t keep up with this story, just read these.

VIDEO: Obama Zombie FAIL

Some members of the Obama Youth have made a new video to show that they’re ready and energized for the mid-term elections. In doing so they’ve embraced their status as Obama Zombies, a term invented by Human Events Editor, Jason Mattera.

By admitting that they’re zombies, aren’t they acknowledging their desperate need for brains?

I’ll give them a few points for dancing ability but I think they need a new lead singer.

Who sang the lead vocals? This girl?

Hat tip to Allahpundit who asks:

The way things are going for The One, is this in fact their best shot at mobilizing turnout?

The NAACP Doesn’t Protect Black People, It Protects Democrats

Let’s deal in reality, shall we?

Yesterday, the NAACP passed a resolution calling the Tea Party “racist.”

Of course, they haven’t made a peep about the New Black Panther voter intimidation case.

The video below shows Andrew Breitbart and civil rights activist Michael Myers discussing the political double standard with Sean Hannity and agreeing.

Allahpundit knows what I’m talking about.

If the NAACP is a non-partisan group, did they defend….

Kenneth Gladney? NOPE.

Michelle Malkin? OOPS!

Republican, Cedra Crenshaw? CRICKETS.

Funny that.
