41% Of America Transforms Into William F. Buckley

“I would rather be governed by the first two thousand people in the Boston telephone directory than by the two thousand people on the faculty of Harvard University.”  -William F. Buckley 1963

Rasmussen Reports says 41% of likely voters are suddenly coming to the same conclusion:

Tuesday’s primaries were more proof of the anti-incumbency mood felt in many parts of the nation, and a new Rasmussen Reports poll finds that many voters continue to feel a randomly selected sample of people from the phone book could do a better job than their elected representatives in Congress.

The latest national telephone survey of Likely Voters finds that 41% say a group of people selected at random from the phone book would do a better job addressing the nation’s problems than the current Congress.

Djou Light Up My Life….

Runner up titles for this post were:

1. Djou are so beautiful, to me.

2. If I Can’t have Djou, I don’t want nobody baby.

I”m speaking of course, about Charles Djou who just won Saturday’s special election, making him the first Republican member of congress from Hawaii in 20 years!

Republican Charles Djou emerged victorious tonight in the special election to fill Hawaii’s vacancy in Congress, giving Hawaii its first GOP member of Congress in 20 years.

“This is a momentous day,” Djou told a jubilant crowd at state party headquarters. “We have sent a message to the United States Congress. We have sent a message to the ex-governors. We have sent a message to the national Democrats! We have sent a message to the machine.

“We have told them that we will not stand idly by as our great nation is overburdened by too much taxes, too much debt and too much wasteful spending.”

Djou is Hawaii’s first GOP member of Congress since Pat Saiki, who represented the party from 1987 to 1991.

Congratulations to Charles Djou! I always knew he could do it.

Hey Pennsylvania! Here Are 3 Good Reasons to Vote for Tim Burns

Tim Burns is a Republican running for congress in Pennsylvania’s 12th district. The special election which will decide the winner is this Tuesday. Here are 3 good reasons to support Tim Burns.

1. He’s not a politician. Tim Burns is a successful, self made business man. Wouldn’t it be nice to have someone in elected office who knows something about growing business and creating jobs?

2. He’s running for the right reasons. Tim Burns is running out of a sense of duty to serve, not because he feels he’s entitled to a legacy seat.

3. His opponent has the backing of the media and the SEIU. Need I say more?

There’s all kinds of crazy stuff going on in Pennsylvania right now over this particular election and Stacy McCain is covering it all.

Oh, did I mention Tim Burns has the full support of Scott Brown?

Charles Djou Has Hawaii Dems and Obama Running Scared

As Republican Charles Djou inches closer to victory, Hawaii Dems are starting to panic.

I cite as evidence this pathetic letter to the editor in the Honolulu Weekly:

Djou Resign Yet?

Many of us are wondering why Councilman Charles Djou has not resigned from his seat on the Honolulu City Council. How can he effectively fulfill his obligations and responsibilities as a Council member and run a full-time congressional campaign? Legally, he is not required to resign, but what about his moral obligation to the community? It seems apparent he believes that he will lose this election and needs his council seat to fall back on when he does. It is clear that Djou feels his political ambitions are more important than serving the people that elected him to office. His lack of principles and integrity disqualify him from holding any political office in Hawaii!

David Bohn
Wahiawa

A quick Google search shows there is a “David Bohn” of Wahiawa, HI who’s a registered member of Change.org.

Assuming it’s the same David Bohn and assuming his membership in Change.org is indicative of his ardent support of Obama, one has to wonder if Mr. Bohn was compelled to write a similar letter to the editor when Barack Obama was ignoring his duties as a US senator while running for president.

Meanwhile, Obama himself is using his political activism group Organizing for America to plea with Hawaii voters to vote for a Democrat. Any Democrat…

President Obama is out with an email to his Organizing for America supporters in Hawaii urging them to vote for a Democrat in Hawaii’s upcoming special election—either Democrat.

Even with former Rep. Ed Case and Democratic state Senate President Colleen Hanabusa splitting the Democratic vote—a scenario that is making it increasingly likely Republican Honolulu City Councilman Charles Djou could win the heavily Democratic seat—Obama does not specify which contender he is urging Hawaii voters to choose in the May 22 race.

And then we come to the real reason for the panic…

“I wanted to take a moment to write directly to you, the voters of Hawaii’s 1st district. Hawaii has special meaning for me — it’s where I was born and spent much of my time as a child,” writes Obama of the seat former Rep. Neil Abercombie vacated to run for governor.

It’s all about Obama. Always was, always will be.

If the Democrats lose this seat while Obama is president, they will consider it an embarrassment and although a victory for Djou isn’t guaranteed, it seems likely at this point.

With that in mind, the Democrats might want to dust off their trusty media spin machine sooner than later.

Liberal Media Stunned to Discover the Existence of Black Republicans

The New York Times reported yesterday:

Among the many reverberations of President Obama’s election, here is one he probably never anticipated: at least 32 African-Americans are running for Congress this year as Republicans, the biggest surge since Reconstruction, according to party officials.

And guess whose support these candidates are seeking. The evil tea party people.

Many of the candidates are trying to align themselves with the Tea Partiers, insisting that the racial dynamics of that movement have been overblown.

William Jacobson of the Legal Insurrection blog calls this the Democrats’ Worst Fear…

The narrative of Tea Party racism has been a contrived political tactic from the start, launched and perpetuated by Democratic Party operatives and their mouthpieces in the media and left-wing blogosphere.

Their worst fear is that the race card will fail, and they will have to defend their ruinous policies. And that worst fear is about to be realized. In November.

MSNBC is -unsurprisingly- completely confused by all of this.

Maybe someone should let the talking heads at MSNBC know that all of the first Black Americans elected to congress were Republicans.

ObamaCare Bribery Roundup!

Democrats

Harry Reid’s Bribes

“Setting aside the question of blatant public bribery – using taxpayer funds – it is clear that the “deal” that bought Senator Ben Nelson’s vote, and the earlier deal that bought Senator Mary Landrieu’s vote, are unequivocally unconstitutional,” Parson said from his home in Moapa, Nevada. Article IV Section 1 states that the: Full Faith and Credit shall be given in each State to the public Acts, Records, and judicial Proceedings of every other State.”

Americans Should Look at Bribes in Health Bill

“Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley, a Republican, says it appears there — are — enough votes for passage, unless the American people can build enough momentum through “irate” phone calls and e-mails over the next 48 hours to derail the measure.”

“Grassley says, “For the 61% of the people in this country that don’t want this, even after it’s passed the Senate, and I think the more the special interests like the ‘Nebraska bribe’ or the ‘Louisiana bribe’ are brought to the attention of the people, the more negative reaction there’s going to be.”

Bribery Evident in Health Care Votes

“I am so angry it is hard to express my thinking in a rational manner. In order to pass a bill that 60 percent of the American people do not want, our Senate leadership resorted to pure bribery. I should point out that in political terms, 60 percent is a landslide. First we are paying Mary Landrieu, D-La., $300 million for a second Louisiana Purchase to change her vote. That’s bribery. Now we are paying Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Neb., who knows how much for his vote. The bill requires all states to extend Medicaid coverage to everyone below 133 percent of the poverty level. That’s an unfunded mandate. After 2016 Nebraska is exempt from paying any additional costs. That’s bribery.”

Bribery in Congress?

“Sadly, certain House and Senate members have voluntarily elected to sell their dignity, their honor, their values, their commitments to their constituents, along with their Constitutional oaths of office, to the Congressional Leadership at “individually negotiated prices, while at the same time, selling out the vast majority of their constituents.”

Bribery in Washington

“It used to be that if you bribed a senator for his vote, you were tried and jailed. Now, as evidenced by Ben Nelson of Nebraska, senators and the White House are bribing senators. See what our country has come to in less than a year under this president and the Democrats in charge. There is nothing they won’t do to get what they want, and the rest of us be damned.”

Where is Our Bribe?

“Something astounding happened this year, for the second year in a row.  Last year the Republicans gave themselves $140 billion in bribes – of our money – to pass legislation which most Americans were against. Yesterday, the Democrats, with Harry Reid at the helm, gave away more of our money in exchange for a vote for the new health care bill – for our sake of course.”

Stupak: My Party’s Trying to Bribe Me

“After watching the Senate’s health-care debate, Rep. Bart Stupak (D., Mich.) tells NRO that he has one message for President Obama and House speaker Nancy Pelosi: “You don’t buy me off.” Stupak tells us that he’s disappointed that Democratic leaders have offered him legislative favors in exchange for supporting Obamacare.”
