73 Year Old Gun Owner – 1, Thief – 0

A petty thief in South Carolina got more than he bargained for when he tried to rob the home of a 73 year old gun owner.

Ken Easler, 73, said he went into his home on Jones Road before heading to the farmer’s market on Saturday morning when he heard someone inside the house.”I was taking produce to the market,” he said. “I was going in the house to get something to drink.”Easler said when he went into the house, he heard someone upstairs.

He grabbed his gun and waited for the person to come downstairs.”I put the clip in and jacked one in the chamber, and when I did, he had already started down the steps. He sat down. He sat down and held onto the rail.

“(He) started saying stuff like, ‘I had to use the bathroom so bad. I had to use your bathroom. I was walking down the road and I had this big urge to use that bathroom.’”But Easler wasn’t having it.”I told him, you know, ‘You’d better shut up and don’t make any sudden moves.’”Easler ushered him through the house at gunpoint.”I put him in the bathroom and I told him, I said, ‘If you close the door,’ I said, ‘I’m going to fill it full of bullet holes, so don’t close the door.’”

He was saying stuff like, ‘I’ve never done anything like this before. If you let me go, I’ll never do it again.’ He said, ‘I don’t have anything. I didn’t take anything.’Easler called 911.”I said, ‘We’ll, I’ve got an intruder in my house and I’ve got him at gunpoint.’”

HT to Don Surber who adds “Here is something that 911 in Chicago never hears. [snip] On Monday, the Supreme Court re-affirmed the right to self-defense by firearm — even in Chicago.”

Seven Million People Have Applied For Background Checks to Buy Guns Since November 2008

There has been a massive surge in applications to buy guns. The Raw Story reports, via Guardian UK and both cite a report from the FBI which we’ve been unable to find at this time. It is believable, however, based on numerous reports from reputable news outlets in recent months.

According to The Raw Story, the boom in gun sales has caused Obama and Democrats to drop an attempt to ban assault weapons. Full story HERE.

“As firearms sales in the United States hit new highs, the Obama Administration and Democrats in Congress are squelching talk of a renewal of the assault weapons ban passed by Congress that in 2004, saying they don’t want a distraction from their agenda and don’t have the votes in Congress.”

“Seven million people have applied for criminal background checks since November in an effort to buy guns, according to the FBI. That figure doesn’t include Virginia, whose gun shows don’t require any background checks.”

Guardian UK points out that the surge in gun sales has led to shortages:

“Firearms sales have surged in the six months since Obama’s election as millions of Americans have gone on a buying spree that has stripped gun shops in some parts of the country almost bare of assault weapons and led to a national ammunition shortage.”

Even CNN is reporting that “Fewer Americans Support Gun Control Laws”.

“Since 2001, most Americans have favored stricter gun laws, though support has slightly dropped in recent years: 54 percent favored stricter laws in 2001, compared with 50 percent in 2007, according to Gallup polling.”

“Now, a recent poll reveals a sudden drop — only 39 percent of Americans now favor stricter gun laws, according to a new CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll.”

It appears love of the Second Amendment is alive and well in America.

Now if we could just get home and car sales to the level of gun sales. Talk about economic stimulus!

President Elect Obama Named Gun Salesman of the Year

No joke.

Outdoor Wire, a news service for outdoor sports has named Barack Obama “Gun Salesman of the Year.”

From Ammoland.com:

“In recognition of the unprecedented demand for firearms by nervous consumers, The Outdoor Wire, the nation’s largest daily electronic news service for the outdoor industry, has named President-elect Barack Obama its “Gun Salesman of the Year”

Apparently the drive in gun sales has to do with fears that Obama will be an anti-gun president.

“Choosing President-elect Obama as the Gun Salesman of the Year, says Shepherd, is a lot like a good-news, bad-news joke. “His election has driven gun sales into the stratosphere,” Shepherd says, “but his opposition to guns and gun ownership may be the biggest threat the industry has ever faced.”

obamahunting

This is an impressive accomplishment for the president elect. He’s driven gun sales through the roof. Now if he can do the same thing for cars and houses we’ll be all set.

It’s shocking that Obama would receive such an honor regarding guns when you consider how bitter those gun clinging religious xenophobes usually are.
