White House correspondent Helen Thomas has resigned in the wake of her shocking comments about Israel.

Helen Thomas, the longtime White House correspondent made famous for her no-holds-barred questioning of presidents, announced her resignation Monday following controversial remarks she made about Israel.

In a statement from Hearst newspapers, where she works as a columnist, she said she is “retiring, effective immediately.”

Thomas’s resignation comes after outrage spread throughout the blogosphere in reaction to a video posted to RabbiLive.com. In it, Thomas said that Jews in Israel should “get the hell out of Palestine” and “go back home to Poland, Germany, America and everywhere else.”

The comments were made during a White House event on May 27 celebrating Jewish heritage. And they came during a time of international outrage at Israel for its attack on a Turkish ship that left nine dead. Israel has rejected calls for an investigation of the incident.

The video of her remarks led to calls for her resignation and for the revoking of her White House press pass.

I’m no fan of Helen Thomas and I vehemently disagree with her views. Nonetheless, it’s a rather sad way to end such a long career.

What an interesting collection of deadly weapons these “humanitarians” have.

The Terror Finance Flotilla

The Turkish organizers of the Gaza Strip-bound flotilla that was boarded this morning by Israeli commandos knew well in advance that their vessels would never reach Israeli waters. That’s because the organizers belong to a nonprofit that was banned by the Israeli government in July 2008 for its ties to terrorism finance.

The Turkish IHH (Islan Haklary Ve Hurriyetleri Vakfi in Turkish) was founded in 1992, and reportedly popped up on the CIA’s radar in 1996 for its radical Islamist leanings.  Like many other Islamist charities, the IHH has a record of providing relief to areas where disaster has struck in the Muslim world.

However, the organization is not a force for good. The Turkish nonprofit belongs to a Saudi-based umbrella organization known to finance terrorism called the Union of Good (Ittilaf al-Kheir in Arabic). Notably, the Union is chaired by Sheikh Yusuf Qaradawi, who is known best for his religious ruling that encourages suicide attacks against Israeli civilians.  According to one report, Qardawi personally transferred millions of dollars to the Union in an effort to provide financial support to Hamas. The Flotilla Attack Was a Terrorist Operation Against Jews

The critics are right: the flotilla attack today was indeed heinous and unforgivable. It is a moral outrage, and must be condemned by all civilized people. Indeed, it was an act of planned terrorism. We must stand as one and condemn it.

Alas, this is unlikely to happen. When one party is represented by ‘oppressed third world people of color,’ we’re not likely to get anywhere. And when it’s a premeditated assault by Islamists on Jews, turn the lights out.

The five points below, presented very briefly, are the essential facts of this incident. When dealing with people who have decided a priori that Israel is the bad guy and is therefore guilty in any conflict in which it is a party, no progress can be made. But most people have no strong opinion about the Israeli-Arab conflict. Reaching them is a moral imperative. This little guide for the perplexed should help people connect the dots and realize that — as usual — Israel has done nothing wrong and is being treated like, as Alan Dershowitz has aptly put it, the ‘Jew among nations,’ even when dealing with genocidal terrorists. ‘Peace convoy’? This was an Islamist Terror Ambush

As the international community rushes to condemn Israel for the violence on board one of the ships in the Gaza flotilla, which left a reported 10 people dead and dozens injured, it is now obvious that the real purpose of this ‘armada of hate’ was not merely the further delegitimisation of Israel but something far worse.

Gaza’s markets are full of produce, thousands of tons of supplies are travelling into Gaza every week through the Israeli-controlled border crossings, and there is no starvation or humanitarian crisis. It was always obvious that the flotilla was not the humanitarian exercise it was said to be. Read it all.

Jennifer Rubin of Commentary Magazine knows why…

Recall that when Obama was in suck-up mode with American Jews (who gave him a pass for twenty years of listening to the anti-Semitic ravings of Rev. Wright) during the campaign, he went to the Wall in which he touchingly placed a note. No, he didn’t at the time mention that he wanted to carve up Jerusalem. But now that it’s out in the open, wouldn’t it seem extraordinarily hypocritical (even for him) to go there? Yes, we’ve come to the point where a trip to the Wall by an American president becomes an act of gross hypocrisy. Tragic, really.

So toxic is the Obama Administration in Israel, that White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, who is Jewish, has received threats over his son’s Bar Mitzvah.

William Jacobson at Legal Insurrection notes the tragic reality:

I feel for Emanuel’s son, and it is unfortunate that the father’s political actions are impinging on an important family event. Any threats made should be condemned.

But, there is an ancient Hebrew saying which addresses this very situation: “You can’t have it both ways.”

You may have seen the now famous footage of David Horowitz dealing with a pro-Hamas college student who, when pressed, advocates a second Holocaust.

Today, the NewsReal blog released a new video of another anti-semitic college student trying to convince Horowitz that her twisted anti-Israel thinking somehow makes sense.

There is an ugly anti-semitic side to liberal politics in America.

It is something I will never understand and I suspect it is at least a part of the reason we won’t see President Obama in Israel any time soon.

The British government has a new idea that sounds frighteningly familiar. They want to label Jewish goods from Israel in case, you know, anyone wants to boycott them…

“The British government has issued an official recommendation urging business owners to mark Israeli products produced in West Bank settlements so that consumers who want to boycott such items will find it easy to identify them.”

“The recommendation is not binding, but this step marks an escalation in the country’s attitude toward Israel’s settlements. “

“Foreign Ministry official Naor Gilon passed along Israel’s harsh condemnation of the move to officials at the British Embassy in Israel on Wednesday.”

In other corners of the UK, the push continues for courts based on Sharia law.

“Shaykh Siddiqi, of the tribunal, said: “What we are trying to do is help the third or fourth generation British Muslims who are growing up to give them the services necessary to make Britain their homeland, rather than saying we actually want to ghettoise ourselves.”

“We are proud of our diverse society and are committed to ensuring cohesive communities. Nothing in the law of England and Wales prevents people abiding by Sharia principles if they wish, provided their actions do not conflict with English and Welsh law.”

Glenn Greenwald of Salon.com is suddenly shocked, just SHOCKED that an American politician would travel to a foreign country and badmouth the United States of America.

Is he shocked that Obama has repeatedly badmouthed the United States of America all over the world?

Of course not!

He’s mad as hell that Mike Huckabee visited Israel and voiced his support of the Jewish people. HOW DARE HE???

The report Greenwald cites is from the Jerusalem Post which has this SHOCKING quote from Governor Huckabee:

“It concerns me when there are some in the United States who would want to tell Israel that it cannot allow people to live in their own country, wherever they want.”

How dare Mike Huckabee criticize Obama for his total lack of support for Israel, a sentiment shared by many Israelis and American Jews themselves?

“Many American supporters of Israel who voted for Barack Obama now suspect they may have been victims of a bait and switch. Jewish Americans voted overwhelmingly for Mr. Obama over John McCain in part because the Obama campaign went to great lengths to assure these voters that a President Obama would be supportive of Israel. This despite his friendships with rabidly anti-Israel characters like Rev. Jeremiah Wright and historian Rashid Khalidi.”

“Now, some of them apparently have voters’ remorse. According to Malcolm Hoenlein, executive vice chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, “President Obama’s strongest supporters among Jewish leaders are deeply troubled by his recent Middle East initiatives, and some are questioning what he really believes.” I hear the same thing from rank-and-file supporters of Israel who voted for Mr. Obama.”

Perhaps it’s because Obama likes to give medals to anti-Semites and pal around with a “reverend” who uses expressions like “them Jews.”

Note to Glenn Greenwald: Before you attack pro-Israel Conservatives, perhaps you should hover a magnifying glass over the president for whom you’re so desperate to provide cover.

There’s only one American politician currently traveling the world, repeating a mantra of “America sucks” and it certainly isn’t Mike Huckabee.

Remember back in January when Roseanne Barr said Israel was a Nazi State?

Well, here’s a photo of Roseanne Barr dressed as Hitler, eating a “Jew cookie” she just took out of an oven.

I don’t know what to say about these photos, except that they will not help the left or President Obama who is already mistrusted by Israel. Perhaps because the Jewish people know that Obama was supported by people like Roseanne Barr.

Maybe I’m just old fashioned, but I fail to see the humorous side of the Holocaust.
