On her first trip to the Gulf Coast since the BP oil spill, First Lady Michelle Obama encouraged Americans to consider vacationing on the region’s beaches that have not been directly impacted by oil.

“It is vacation time. Folks are looking for things to do with their kids, and this would be a great opportunity to do a few things — help this community, send a different message about the extent of the spill, and also think long term about how the rest of the country can help this economy and the folks down here,” Mrs. Obama said at the Panama City Welcome Center.

The Obama family will be taking a mini-vacation of their own this weekend, but instead of going to the Gulf Coast they are traveling to Maine’s Mount Desert Island, home of Acadia National Park.

Mrs. Obama said the word needs to get out to Americans that there are “beautiful beaches” along the Gulf Coast and it’s a great time for families to come down with their kids.

Not beautiful enough for the First Family, apparently.

Earlier today, Jake Tapper of ABC questioned White House Spokesman Robert Gibbs over Obama’s nonsense war with FOX News.

I’ve been watching the FOX News channel this afternoon.

Jake received major kudos and props from Glenn Beck at 5 and just now from Bret Baier on Special Report, (update: and now O’Reilly and Hannity) which got me thinking…

How long before Tapper moves to FOX?

Can’t you see it? I think it would be great.

Anyone? Anyone?

So says the first commenter over at Jake Tapper’s blog, Political Punch. Tapper had an interesting exchange with White House spokesman Robert Gibbs on the nature of Obama’s stupid war with FOX News.

“From this morning’s gaggle in White House press secretary Robert Gibbs’ office:”

“Tapper: It’s escaped none of our notice that the White House has decided in the last few weeks to declare one of our sister organizations “not a news organization” and to tell the rest of us not to treat them like a news organization. Can you explain why it’s appropriate for the White House to decide that a news organization is not one –”

“(Crosstalk)”

“Gibbs: Jake, we render, we render an opinion based on some of their coverage and the fairness that, the fairness of that coverage.”

I have to admit, this is a question I have asked myself. Who is Allahpundit? The question grew stronger when I read Andy Levy’s remembrance of September 11th, 2001 based on Allahpundit’s recollection.

In the following video (audio) from the Mark Levin Show, Mark asks Michelle Malkin to confirm that Allahpundit is a real person. For the record, I have always known Allahpundit is real. No fake blogger could blow me off as much as he has. Kidding!

Seriously, why are we asking who Allahpundit really is?

Let us focus on truly important questions like, WHO IS SMITTY and why is he obsessed with Jake Tapper’s Twitter feed?

According to one of his aides…

Jake Tapper and Sunlen Miller of ABC News report that they overheard some interesting discussion on a conference call regarding Obama’s upcoming trip to Egypt…

“The other day we heard a comment from a White House aide that never would have been uttered during the primaries or general election campaign.”

“During a conference call in preparation for President Obama’s trip to Cairo, Egypt, where he will address the Muslim world, deputy National Security Adviser for Strategic Communications Denis McDonough said “the President himself experienced Islam on three continents before he was able to — or before he’s been able to visit, really, the heart of the Islamic world — you know, growing up in Indonesia, having a Muslim father — obviously Muslim Americans (are) a key part of Illinois and Chicago.”

Fascinating.

Tapper and Miller go on to remind us of Obama’s attempt to derail such “smears” as being labeled a Muslim.

“In September 2008, candidate Obama told a Pennsylvania crowd, “I know that I’m not your typical presidential candidate and I just want to be honest with you. I know that the temptation is to say, ‘You know what? The guy hasn’t been there that long in Washington. You know, he’s got a funny name. You know, we’re not sure about him.’ And that’s what the Republicans when they say this isn’t about issues, it’s about personalities, what they’re really saying is, ‘We’re going to try to scare people about Barack. So we’re going to say that, you know, maybe he’s got Muslim connections.’…Just making stuff up.”

Just making stuff up? How can anyone know for sure who is telling the truth now?

You know the wheels are coming off when…

We’re not fond of Rachel Maddow’s politics or TV show but we delight in hearing her trash The One. Rachel was freaked out by Obama’s national security speech because she felt it was a little too Bushy.

UPDATE: In the first minute of the video, Rachel claims that Obama made his speech in front of the “real US Constitution.” Not true. Jake Tapper of ABC reports:

“No, that was not an actual copy of the Constitution behind President Obama as he spoke today.”

“A spokeswoman for the National Archives confirms that just like in the movie National Treasure, the document on display today was a facsimile.”

How did we almost miss this???
