Why Would Algerian Detainees Rather Stay At GITMO?

Could it be because they’re treated better by America than they would be treated by the government of their own country?

In a word? Yes.

The Obama administration would quickly send home six Algerians held at the military detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, but for one problem: The men don’t want to go. Given the choice between repatriation and incarceration, the men choose Gitmo, according to their lawyers.

The administration secured a significant legal victory Thursday when a federal appeals court overturned a lower court’s ruling that had barred the government from repatriating one of them. The detainee had asserted that if he is returned, the Algerian government will torture him or he will be targeted by terrorist groups who will kill him if he refuses to join.

Hat Tip to John Hinderaker at Powerline who adds:

The detainees fear that they might be tortured or killed if they return to Algeria. Which is to say, actually tortured, something that has never happened at Gitmo, notwithstanding the global hyperventilation of the last seven or eight years.

Wouldn’t it be nice if leftist organizations, like – oh I don’t know – the Democratic Party, would acknowledge this as a fact just once?

I guess it’s too bad that the Algerian detainees aren’t Uighurs because if they were, they’d probably be headed to the sandy pink beaches of Bermuda.

Of course, that plan worked so well that it inspired graffiti in the subways of Boston, Massachusetts.

Obama’s “Mission Accomplished” Moment

Obama has continued a number of policies from his predecessor, but now he even has a “Mission Accomplished” moment of his very own.

As reported by the Politico:

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — President Barack Obama has a new campaign slogan.

“Yes, we did.”

And it doesn’t stop there. Republicans, an animated Obama argued Thursday, wouldn’t have.

They wouldn’t have set the economy back on track, he said during a fundraiser for Senate candidate Robin Carnahan, or passed a health care overhaul or financial regulatory reform. Giving the GOP control of Congress again — a possibility that Obama acknowledged — would usher in another era of a “you’re on your own philosophy,” he said.

In which alternate reality is the president currently residing? The economy is back on track? You could have fooled me.

Republicans wouldn’t have passed Obamacare? That’s a feature not a bug, Mr. President.

Your on your own philosophy? You mean like the people of Arizona who wish the federal government would do its job and secure their border?

If this is your idea of “yes we did” maybe you could do us a favor next time.

Don’t.

The Goddamn Ruskies Are Invading America Again

I bet you think I’m kidding.

Charles at LBOTC is on the scene.

BIG time.

On a related note… Don’t get me wrong, I really like Glenn Beck but just as one of his favorite political targets, he never wastes a crisis.

Christie/Brewer 2012?

Why not?

Governor Jan Brewer of Arizona, is serious about national security.

Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey is serious about balancing budgets. In the video below, he says he doesn’t want to be president so let’s just fantasize.

What’s not to love?

I’m just dreaming out loud here, but they both have more executive experience than Obama and Biden put together. So…

Shocking Video: Arizona Senator Claims Obama is Sacrificing US Border Security for Political Gain

This is from ColdWarrior at Red State…

On June 18, 2010, Arizona Republican Senator Jon Kyl told the audience at a North Tempe Tea Party town hall meeting that during a private, one-on-one meeting with President Obama in the Oval Office, the President told him, regarding securing the southern border with Mexico, “The problem is, . . . if we secure the border, then you all won’t have any reason to support ‘comprehensive immigration reform.’” [Audible gasps were heard throughout the audience.] Sen. Kyl continued, “In other words, they’re holding it hostage. They don’t want to secure the border unless and until it is combined with ‘comprehensive immigration reform.’”

Here’s the video. Hope you’re sitting down…

Two NJ Men Arrested for Terrorist Ties in Somalia

Terrorism? What terrorism?

Wasn’t the election of Obama supposed to end stuff like this?

Two New Jersey men intent on killing American troops were arrested Saturday as they boarded flights to link up with a virulent jihadist group in Somalia, authorities said.

The men, both North Jersey residents, were charged with conspiring to commit an act of international terrorism through a group tied to Osama bin Laden’s al Qaeda network, according to officials familiar with the details of the arrests.

Mohamed Hamoud Alessa, 20, of North Bergen, and Carlos Eduardo Almonte, 26, of Elmwood Park were apprehended at John F. Kennedy International Airport in Queens before they could board separate flights to Egypt, where they were to start journeys to Somalia.

It’s a good thing these guys weren’t trying to enter Arizona from Mexico. After all, America doesn’t want to be accused of racism.

Why Doesn’t Obama Go To Israel?

Jennifer Rubin of Commentary Magazine knows why…

Recall that when Obama was in suck-up mode with American Jews (who gave him a pass for twenty years of listening to the anti-Semitic ravings of Rev. Wright) during the campaign, he went to the Wall in which he touchingly placed a note. No, he didn’t at the time mention that he wanted to carve up Jerusalem. But now that it’s out in the open, wouldn’t it seem extraordinarily hypocritical (even for him) to go there? Yes, we’ve come to the point where a trip to the Wall by an American president becomes an act of gross hypocrisy. Tragic, really.

So toxic is the Obama Administration in Israel, that White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, who is Jewish, has received threats over his son’s Bar Mitzvah.

William Jacobson at Legal Insurrection notes the tragic reality:

I feel for Emanuel’s son, and it is unfortunate that the father’s political actions are impinging on an important family event. Any threats made should be condemned.

But, there is an ancient Hebrew saying which addresses this very situation: “You can’t have it both ways.”

You may have seen the now famous footage of David Horowitz dealing with a pro-Hamas college student who, when pressed, advocates a second Holocaust.

Today, the NewsReal blog released a new video of another anti-semitic college student trying to convince Horowitz that her twisted anti-Israel thinking somehow makes sense.

There is an ugly anti-semitic side to liberal politics in America.

It is something I will never understand and I suspect it is at least a part of the reason we won’t see President Obama in Israel any time soon.

POW! Arizona Governor Jan Brewer Lands a Right Hook on Obama’s Cocky Jaw!

The title of this post is written in political metaphor of course, but I’m sure I’ll be misinterpreted, misquoted, misunderstood and unread by my critics. Much like the state of Arizona, come to think of it.

Maybe Arnold Schwarzenegger Should Get Himself a Blogging Account at Daily KOS

Since he’s pushing the same misinformation about Arizona’s new immigration law.

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger gave the commencement address at Emory University on Monday.

His was a relatively non-political speech, but the Republican’s prepared remarks included this:

“I was also going to give a graduation speech in Arizona this weekend. But with my accent, I was afraid they would try to deport me.”

I guess he knows his political career is over anyway. Might as well go for the laughs.

You’d think he would support Arizona Governor Jan Brewer, given that they’re both Republican governors for border states. You’d think. As Brewer has pointed out, no one in Arizona is laughing.
