I Just Got Back From a Scott Brown Press Conference

I have just returned from a great Scott Brown press conference in downtown Boston. Brown’s performance was top rate and his treatment by the press was fair, for the most part, more on that in a minute.

Brown spent part of the time highlighting his positions on national security, his disagreement with the policy of civilian trials for terrorists and he insisted we are in a very real war with Al Qaeda terrorists. He mentioned that he supports Obama’s decision to send more troops to Afghanistan. Brown also took questions on his amazing fundraising earlier this week. Here’s a photo of Brown at the presser, sorry it’s a little dark:

Scott Brown at Press Conference

The one annoying question Brown got was from a reporter (I don’t know who she was with) who twisted herself into knots trying to make Scott Brown talk about about the Tea Party, a tactic which drew a surprising amount of groans and eye rolls from the other assembled journalists.

Brown handled the question well though, and basically said that he is open to talking to voters of every political background. That he would meet with any voters, anywhere, any time.

While I was there, I finally got to meet Robert Stacy McCain in person. He arrived in Boston this morning to cover the election and he’s every bit as charming in person as he is online. Byron York of the Washington Examiner was also there and I got to meet him too which was pretty awesome. Here’s a pic of Byron:

And finally, here’s a pic of the assembled press. You can see Byron York again on the right.

The Press

There is a lot of excitement here in the Bay State. You could even sense it at the press conference. I will be reconnecting with Stacy McCain and Da Tech Guy in the coming days, perhaps at the Brown Headquarters and I’ll post updates as I get them.

UPDATE: Stacy McCain has more photos and details!

Da Tech Guy has more too.

ObamaCare Press Conference: An Epic FAIL for the Ages

Last night, President Obama made his live television appeal for his desired health care reform, legislation he clearly wants passed with speed and a lack of scrutiny. The press conference was an apoortunity for him to make his case and explain to the people of America why they should embrace his plan.

He failed.

The president did not express a single piece of new information to support his case, nor did he manage to adequately explain to the American people just how his plan would work. What Americans did get was long boring answers to easy questions from a press corps already viewed by the public as Obama’s personal team of slobbering lap dogs.

The viewing public was treated to Obama’s typical long winded rhetoric and answers so lengthy they would be the envy of any epic poet. We got the monologue about the blue pill and the red pill. We got straw men galore in the form of “those who say” and “those who prefer the status quo” as well as the tired attack on Republicans, an attack Obama denied mere minutes after launching it.

There was no coherent explanation of his plan and no convincing argument for his position. President Obama may get some sort of health plan reform in the future but this press conference damaged his credibility. He came off looking uninformed, confused and bored with his own agenda.

President Obama seemed only to come to life twice during the entire event. First, when he launched a bizarre attack on family doctors he seems to believe are locked in a conspiracy to remove children’s tonsils for greed and profit. Second, when he said that the Cambridge Police Department “acted stupidly” by arresting professor Henry Gates, only after admitting he didn’t have all the facts in the case.

Unfortunately for President Obama, there was only one person last night who truly seemed to be acting stupidly. It was the man trying to convince America he had a health plan they should support.

He failed.

Obama’s First Press Conference – What. A. Joke.

Tough question from the Washington Post:

How do you feel about A-Rod using steroids?

Hey Washington Post – Who the fuck cares?!

Major Garrett from FOX News asks a real question:

What was Biden talking about THREE DAYS ago when he said you have a 30% chance of failure?

The transparent president’s response: I don’t remember. (Sure you don’t.)

The Huffington Post’s question:

Will you prosecute Bush?

Answer: No.

Final thought? What the fuck is the Huffington Post doing at the president’s press conference? What’s next, questions from bloggers at the Daily KOS?

And if the Huffington Post is there, why are there no representatives from Hot Air or Red State?

Did this press conference inspire confidence in President Obama?

The words “umm” “err” and “uhh” come to mind.
