SHOCK: UK Claims Obama Knew of Decision to Release Lockerbie Bomber

If true, this makes the Van Jones scandal look pretty small.

Lockerbie bombingThis is not good news for anyone but it’s really bad news for the Obama Administration…

“British officials claim Mr Obama and Mrs Clinton were kept informed at all stages of discussions concerning Megrahi’s return.”

“The officials say the Americans spoke out because they were taken aback by the row over Megrahi’s release, not because they did not know it was about to happen.”

‘The US was kept fully in touch about everything that was going on with regard to Britain’s discussions with Libya in recent years and about Megrahi,’ said the Whitehall aide.”

‘We would never do anything about Lockerbie without discussing it with the US. It is disingenuous of them to act as though Megrahi’s return was out of the blue.”

‘They knew about our prisoner transfer agreement with Libya and they knew that the Scots were considering Megrahi’s case.’

If true, this makes the Van Jones scandal look pretty small.

Did Obama Sign Off on the Release of the Lockerbie Bomber?

I hope for the sake of our country that Obama had no prior knowledge of the release, we have enough on our nation's plate at the moment. If Obama did have prior knowledge of the release, he better hope the CIA doesn't know about it.

Earlier this month, the country of Scotland shocked the world by releasing Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed al-Megrahi to his Lockerbie bombingnative country of Libya after serving only eight short years for the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 which killed 270 innocent people.

So shocking were these developments, that even average people with no involvement in foreign policy began whispering that this decision must have been largely political. Bits of information are beginning to come to light.

Times Online UK released a scathing report yesterday titled Lockerbie Bomber Set Free for Oil.

“The British government decided it was “in the overwhelming interests of the United Kingdom” to make Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed al-Megrahi, the Lockerbie bomber, eligible for return to Libya, leaked ministerial letters reveal.”

“Gordon Brown’s government made the decision after discussions between Libya and BP over a multi-million-pound oil exploration deal had hit difficulties. These were resolved soon afterwards.”

“The letters were sent two years ago by Jack Straw, the justice secretary, to Kenny MacAskill, his counterpart in Scotland, who has been widely criticised for taking the formal decision to permit Megrahi’s release.”

Back on this side of the pond, a story from the Philadelphia Inquirer has appeared at Real Clear Politics titled Killer’s Release Demands Answers.

“Megrahi is now a free man in his native land; we cannot hold him accountable for his crimes. But the people of Britain, as citizens of a democratic nation, can hold their government accountable for releasing him. And we in the United States should demand accountability of our leaders, too.”

“What did American officials know about the decision to free Megrahi and when did they know it? What, if anything, did our government do to try to prevent it? Remember, 180 of Megrahi’s victims were our fellow citizens. President Obama had a right to be informed in advance of what Scotland was planning to do and a duty to do everything in his power diplomatically to prevent this outrage.”

Finally, Joe Scarborough of the “Morning Joe” program made it clear today that he is not convinced that Obama had no idea this was going to occur.

It is quite possible that Obama had no prior knowledge that Scotland was planning to release al-Megrahi but it is interesting that the question is even being asked.

I hope for the sake of our country that Obama had no prior knowledge of the release, we have enough on our nation’s plate at the moment.

If Obama did have prior knowledge of the release, he better hope the CIA doesn’t know about it.
