President Barack Obama told disabled veterans in Atlanta on Monday that he was fulfilling a campaign promise by ending U.S. combat operations in Iraq “on schedule.”
But the timetable for withdrawing U.S. troops in Iraq was decided during the Bush administration with the signing of the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) by U.S. and Iraq officials on Nov. 16, 2008. The Iraqi parliament signed SOFA on Nov. 27, 2008.
The agreement, which had been in negotiations since 2007, set a timetable calling for most U.S. troops to leave Iraqi towns and cities by June 30, 2009, with about 50,000 troops left in place until the final withdrawal of all U.S. military forces by Dec. 31, 2011.
Listen to Obama, who opposed the surge, touting his success…
Last Monday for some reason I was watching MSNBC’s Morning Joe, which I never do. I was working away and not looking at the TV screen but my ears pointed up when I heard Joe Scarborough call for a military draft for the wars in the middle east. I actually wondered if I had misheard him.
I sincerely hope all the 18 to 25 year-olds who voted for Obama are paying close attention, because they are exactly who would get the call if a military draft was instated.
Then again, some of America’s young “activists” seem fond of warfare.
Oh, just one more thing. Do you think anyone besides me would be talking about this if FOX News was actively calling for a new military draft?
General McChrystal has been removed from operations in Afghanistan and replaced with General Petraeus, an honorable man who owes America nothing.
Since General Petraeus has stepped up to the plate to continue selflessly serving America and is essentially bailing out the national security efforts of one President Barack Obama, perhaps MoveOn.org could issue a full page ad in the New York Times and beg forgiveness for this piece of partisan filth which it ran in the Times in 2007.
Memorial Day is a time to remember the brave men and women who have died while defending America.
I found the video below on BLACKFIVE and couldn’t resist posting it here.
The music is a song by Enya called Na Laetha Geal M’Óige. The title, which is written in Irish Gaelic translates roughly to “the bright days of my youth” and is fitting when you consider that’s exactly what our greatest heroes gave up to defend our freedom and liberty.
Liberal commentator Alan Colmes appeared on Megyn Kelly’s FOX News program yesterday and claimed that there’s no such thing as radical Islam.
Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl couldn’t be reached for comment because in 2002, an Islamic radical used a knife to cut Daniel Pearl’s head off, while he was completely awake without any type of anesthesia.
It’s stuffed with non-military related PORK. Shocker.
House Democrats are preparing to pass an Afghanistan war-spending bill on a party-line vote as Republicans balk at extra provisions the White House wants in the measure. [SNIP]
Senior Democrats in the upper chamber and the Obama administration are looking to attach to the war bill a $23 billion fund to help state and local governments stave off teacher layoffs. [SNIP]
The Obama administration has called on Congress to approve the war-spending bill by the Memorial Day recess. Of the $59 billion in the measure moving through the Senate, $33.5 billion is for military operations and will go toward funding Obama’s plan to increase U.S. troops in Afghanistan by 30,000. The Senate measure also has $13.4 billion for compensation to Vietnam veterans exposed to Agent Orange[Fine!], $6.2 for foreign aid and $5.1 for domestic disaster aid.
If the only two provisions in the bill were for our military in Afghanistan and our Vietnam vets, the bill would likely get unanimous support from the GOP. Democrats can’t have it that way though. They have to include union kickbacks in everything. How else could they get votes?
