Dear Jon Favreau – There’s No Such Thing As No-Government Conservatives

July 30, 2013

Obama’s former speech writer Jon Favreau wrote a piece for The Daily Beast today filled with lots of subtle and not so subtle anti-conservative propaganda. I’ll rebut below.

Among his claims:

The Republican Party has been overrun by people who want no government.

Sorry Jon, those are the anarchists in Oakland and the filthy crime ridden Occupy camps you and yours support. Conservatives respect the rule of law but want smaller and more efficient government. Rejecting the Titanic doesn’t mean you hate boats. Even the most hard core Libertarians in America believe in some government.

The Republican Party was so much better when they had moderates.

Oh, you mean like John McCain? You and your ilk didn’t seem to like him so much back in 2008 but now you think the Republican Party can’t survive without people like him? By the way Jon, who are the moderates in the Democratic Party? Bill Ayers? Self proclaimed Socialist Lawrence O’Donnell of MSNBC? Obama? Was Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney a little too “right-wing” for you? Please.

Conservatives are hostage takers.

Ahh, there’s the “new tone” we’ve heard so much about. Tell me Jon, who’s keeping the White House closed to the American public while he travels to Africa and Martha’s Vineyard on the taxpayer’s dime? Who was in charge of the government when the IRS just happened to target Tea Party groups in the run up to the 2012 election?

The truth Jon, is that you’re a liar.

You hate Republicans, Conservatives and Libertarians. You hate everything they stand for and you’ll do anything you can to discredit and smear them while pretending to offer them counsel and advice. Like Obama, you think America is fundamentally flawed and you won’t be happy until the entire country looks like Detroit, the only exceptions being Washington, DC and Hollywood.

You’re a second rate propagandist, but as one of the people in Obama’s inner circle you probably helped create the fake war on women campaign of 2012. You certainly hated Hillary Clinton during the 2008 Democratic Primary but you’ll ignore any sense of truth and fully support her in 2016.

Remember this picture from 2008, Jon? Go Hillary!

You’re everything that’s wrong with American politics, Jon. You’re an Obama worshiping cultist who got the chance of a lifetime to work for your own personal Jesus.

Forgive us Republicans/Conservatives/Libertarians for kindly ignoring your unsolicited advice.

These are the punks that would rule over us given the chance. Just look at their little arms and shoulders with their tight euro-trash clothing while they ‘sexual assault’ Hilary. Imagine if Romney staffers had done this?

They are the true believers, there is no compromise with these types only victory over them.

Actually, among hardcore libertarians there is an undetermined percentage of individualist/”market anarchists,” some of whom do a fine job of raising some tough questions about the nature of government power versus individual rights. That said, sure, a majority of libertarians would be satisfied with a minimal “night watchman” government.

I think we can all easily ignore the opinions of a speech writer who gets his jollies feeling up a cardboard cutout of Hillary Clinton. In fact, I think we can take him as a symbol of everything that is wrong with the current administration.

Republicans have received an infusion of new blood that believe that the US Constitution means what it says. The US Constitution, as written, specifies a limited role for the national government, but allows a bigger size and role for government at the state and local level if their citizens so choose. Progressives upended this arrangement by stretching regulation of interstate commerce to the point where it includes a man growing wheat for his own consumption. They expanded taxation from simple revenue collection to a way to inflict punishment. Now we have a group of leftists using the national government to try to impose their model on the entire country instead of trying to persuade voters on a state-by-state basis.
