I Am Now a Blogger For Hire…

June 29, 2015

I just received the bad news that I’ve been laid off from my day job.

The bad part is that I liked my job and the people I worked with. The good part is that I now have an opportunity to try something else.

I’d love a chance to make writing my full time pursuit. Over the years, my work has concentrated on politics, culture, media and higher education but I can write about nearly any topic.

For anyone who doesn’t know, I’ve been blogging at this site since 2008. I’ve also been a regular contributor at Legal Insurrection and College Insurrection since 2012. I plan to continue writing for the Insurrection team and I’m thankful for Professor Jacobson’s support.

I have an outstanding work ethic. I’ve been writing multiple posts for three different blogs every day while maintaining a full time day job for years. You can learn more about me here.

If you’re reading this, I’d like to ask two favors:

1. If you see an opportunity for which you think I’d be a good fit, please email me…

2. Hit my tip jar if you can. It’s on the right, at the bottom of the banner links section.

As always, thanks for reading.

Sincerely,

Aleister

Update: Thanks to Ed Driscoll for linking at Instapundit.

Thanks to those who hit the tip jar.

Also thanks to Professor Jacobson for this vote of confidence.

    Hi Aleister,

I’m very sorry to hear this news. I understand it quite well — I am in a similar situation, as a result of “economic considerations” (cheaper labor in India & Pakistan).

I wish you the best. I hope you can find a position writing for reasonable pay. (You are an excellent writer; however, it seems that political views, rather than quality of writing, is the most important qualification when writing for pay). I also hope that your writings, published statements, and other “contributions” were not the reason you lost your day job — that is becoming far to common (e.g., google “Brandon Eich”).

Thanks so much. Set your mind at ease. My political views had nothing to do with it.

Lay offs can be scary times. Here’s hoping you land on your feet real soon!

I really enjoy your work at Legal Insurrection and College Insurrection – getting you into his stable of bloggers was a real coup by Professor Jacobson, IMHO. I don’t have any paying jobs to offer you, but I’ll keep you in my thoughts and prayers. I would love to see your voice distributed to a wider audience, and so I’ll pray that something comes your way to enable you to effect that.

Hi Aleister, I’m in the same boat as you at the moment. All I can say is, get out there, interview, and then it’s out of your hands. At least it’s summertime. Unemployment during the summer is better than unemployment during the cold of the winter.

So sorry to hear about this Aleister!

I won’t speak to your outstanding knowledge of current events across a range of topics or your writing ability as these speak for themselves in your work, but I do want to emphasize for potential employers that you have an outstanding work ethic and are dependable, professional, and a genuine pleasure to work with.
